Freya Kylien was first born to Cain Ardor Dre’kari and Shae Kala Nal’reki during the season of Bloom, in the final year of the Age of Man. Her birth took place aboard The Oathbreaker, a sizable galleon manned by her father’s best crew, which traversed the stormy sea dividing the great countries of Aramane and Clead. While the birth was to be expected, complications arose soon after Shae’s laboring that saw her health deteriorate quickly. It was only days later when the vessel returned home that Freya’s mother passed away, leaving both her family and her position vulnerable to the greed and political agendas of others.
Based on tradition as Ka’sul of the Dre’kari, Cain took up a second bride during his time with his late wife; a woman by the name Corina Ruvar who rose to the position of Su’ka-na shortly after Shae’s death. While she appeared compliant as the Oma-na, Corina was a ruthless sorceress as Su’ka-na and guarded her political power with a strict rule and an iron will. Little time passed before she birthed a son for Cain, and once the babe’s gender was made known, Freya was pushed from the line of succession and all but forgotten.
That’s not to say she had a troubling childhood. The young ecrede was educated like her half siblings, but not in the way of politics. She was taught the etiquette and propriety that one of her birth should wield; that she was a noblewoman that would one day be wed to an allied clan, thus strengthening her own. It was her birthright. A fact hammered into her head as the years turned and she blossomed into a young girl.
Like all Ecrede, Freya yearned for freedom from her duties and sought a life of adventure. When her brothers and sisters were cooped up with their lessons, she would sneak away to surf the crystal tides surrounding her home. Golden eyes often greeted dawn and dusk aboard the girl’s makeshift raft until the fingers of night coaxed her home to the wrath of her Su’ka-na.
Corina was never happy when Freya disregarded her duties and took it upon herself to design punishments so the young girl would behave. These punishments turned into lessons when Corina discovered Freya's gift over Hydras, the arcane art of water manipulation, and saw to it that she practiced everyday to refine the girl's casting and control.
One might have thought this time together would help strengthen their relationship, but Corina was none too kind to Freya in the way of her gifts. She was harsh and demanding, pushing the young girl to extreme limits only to spit venom at her when she failed. Much of the reason for Freya's insecurities were developed due to the harsh treatment from her Su'ka-na; abuse that she withheld from her father given his lack of time and presence.
Sometime after blossoming into a woman, Freya began to develop her bloodline's gift of Dream Weaving and spent many nights lost to the realm of dreams, playing through her memories and living out her desires. She taught herself much of what she knows presently, however, upon discovering Freya had awoken her gift, Cain began to take part in his daughter's lessons and see to its development as well.
It wasn't until her fifteenth name day had past when Freya started to accompany her father on voyages to allied clans. She was happy to finally crawl out from underneath her Su'ka-na's strict rules but never knew what the travels were truly intended for until they had set off. While marriage had been mentioned time and again to Freya, she had never thought it would come to pass so soon until one evening over dinner, her father proposed a list of suitors from their allied clans for her to peruse.
"You must decide." He had said.
Freya didn't care for the intricacies of politics or why marriage mattered so much for her, yet the prospect of pleasing her father weighed heavily on her thoughts and reluctantly, the ecrede complied. Two years were spent negotiating with her selected suitors until the pool narrowed down to only a few. One of which was a childhood friend by the name Dominik Sal'kav.
Her first impression of Dominik when they met again as young adults was one of distrust, for he appeared watchful, like a predator, with intense red eyes that radiated with hidden, dark intentions. Ignoring her instincts, Freya went along with the usual arrangements and, as per tradition, when the pair were left alone to converse privately was when the predator dropped his guise.
Dominik attempted to force himself upon the young woman, but by the grace of the Gods, Freya fought back and escaped to her father's ship looking beaten and battered. Marriage negotiations fell through, as well as the long time alliance had with the Sal'kav, and regretfully, Freya returned to her homelands unwed and less trusting of the world and its people.
It took time for her to find peace again, but just as the tides had steadied, a typhoon of chaos changed the coarse of her life forever. In retaliation for the collapsed alliance and disgraced placed upon their clan, the Sal'kav invaded the Dre'kari's homeland, murdered its people, and burned its territory to the ground. At least, that's what Freya has assumed by the lone, crest marked sword left in her father's skull when she returned home.
Freya remains the last of her line and plans to dedicate her life to taking revenge on those who murdered her family.
Most have praised Freya as being the spitting image of her mother, yet with a fierce side carried by her father. She is a woman who stands tall, if not a bit poised, at 5’6” with a slender, built body honed from time spent sailing the ocean. While she’s been on the run for the last few years, her noble upbringing shows often in her mannerisms, speech, and overall appearance. Such luxuries given to her in childhood, she’s enjoyed as an adult such as a collection of fragrances and soaps she applies to her baths often. Freya doesn’t fuss over clothes, though when she has the coin to shop, new, stain-free garments are among the first items she’ll buy. Leather corsets that are easy to move in, cotton tunics, trousers, shoes, belts, and blades keep her wardrobe full and, when she feels like it, the occasional dress or three. Freya rarely sports makeup and while she enjoys fragrance, simply keeps to taming her wavy, wild brunette locks as a routine.
What is most enchanting about her are the ever changing eye color carried by her kind. Shifting with every emotion, they stand as illuminating hues which could capture even the coldest stare in awe.
