Portal Gates
Portal Gates
The Portal Gates are a creation of the Human Race, the secrets of the design, build and maintenance, remain closely guarded by the Humans. A Summoner Faction, known to the world of Noar as, Atrix, are made up entirely of Humans, believing the secrets of the gates can be entrusted to no other race. Atrix take their orders directly from the King of Aramane, sworn to protect and maintain all Portal Gates.
Portal Gates allow characters to travel from one place to another at instant speed, such as traveling from Aramane across the world of Noar to Clead. It is a form of teleportation, working a lot like Summoning. This takes a lot of Esen to achieve and can only be done once per season. Portal Gates are namely used for trade and postal services, as objects and letters can be sent through the portal daily. All gates, whether Master or Lesser gates, are activated for travel twice a day, during High Sun (midday) and High Moon (midnight). They remain active for a full hour, allowing plenty of time for people and objects to pass through.
This system cannot be abused, for a second attempt to pass through a Portal Gate within a season will cause the gate to reject the attempt, sending the individual flying backwards in a great blast of bright light which will drain the individual of all of their Esen for the remainder of the day and leave them with minor skin burns.
Mechanics of Portal Gates
Walking through a Portal Gate drains all of the Esen from a caster, including any of the stored Esen from their Attuned Conduits for the remainder of the day. A character must have full Esen at the time of stepping through the gate to arrive successfully. High level Summoners sell charged marbles with teleportation abilities. You can only use the gate once per season, there is no exception to this rule.
A Portal Teleportation Marble Costs: 1000 CR (per person), 500 CR (per mount), 100 CR (single item only), and 1 CR (per letter).
Portals are maintained and protected by Atrix, based in Aramane. All portals are two way, meaning if it works to take you to a destination, you can also return from the destination (the following season) back to where you came from. Of course, all these two-way gates are known as ‘Lesser Gates’ because they lead to and from Aramane, the creators and keepers of the Portal Gates. Some gates, known as ‘Master Gates’ are flexible, allowing people to travel from one location to another without having to go to Aramane.
Members of Atrix are the only group with the power to repair gates. They also have the ability to turn a Lesser Gate into a Master Gate and vice versa. Through these means, Aramane have established themselves as the trade capital of the world, keeping trade/peace agreements with places like Clead and Nejem which allow them the use of Master Gates.
